Message to tutors from Cindy Sackett, our executive director

To our valued tutors,

Happy New Year! We're grateful to have you as part of our community, helping fuel our creativity and empower our mission. We are ever evolving and growing and appreciate you being on this journey with us.

Returning to in-person learning has been a challenge for our students—the constant disruption for two years has taken a toll. Amid all of the changes and uncertainty, Invest in Youth tutors have shown up for their students, found ways to build relationships, and helped our students focus on academics and emotional care during the pandemic. We are so proud of the work you all are doing on our behalf.

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading quickly, and we, along with SPS, are tracking public health data. Though we don’t know the full impact that Omicron will have on our schools and community, we want to share that our plan is to continue to support our students as we are currently doing. This means those schools that are in person will continue to be in person.

That said, we are also preparing for the possibility that some schools will have to go remote at some point in January.  We are sharing this information with you now so you can be as ready as possible should your student need to switch to remote tutoring from home. While we know this is not ideal, we want to be prepared to support our students if this possibility comes to be.

We also encourage you to continue to be diligent by following all CDC guidelines and staying home if you are not feeling well.

We will provide updates, as timely as possible as we get them from Seattle Public Schools.

If you have any questions, please ask us through the CONTACT link below. We are happy to help in any way we can.

We wish you a great 2022 and hope you all enjoy your students this year!

Cindy Sackett
