message from cindy sackett, our executive director

To the Invest in Youth Community,

As we near the close of 2021, we are excited to share that Invest In Youth is up and running with a mix of in-person and online tutoring at our partner schools.

Last year challenged us to find creative solutions and develop online approaches to deliver rewarding one-on-one tutoring to students. As we move through the 2021-22 school year, we continue to build upon these solutions and approaches to enhance the academic abilities, self-confidence, and life prospects of young learners in Seattle Public Schools.

We know that the loss of in-person learning from last year affected students’ academic outlook and resilience. Experts predict this has the potential to widen the education gap – especially for students who were already struggling with mental health concerns or family conflict.

Invest in Youth’s relationship-based tutoring model is especially relevant to supporting the success of students. Based on our own experience with students as well as academic research that cites the effectiveness of one-on-one tutoring, we see first-hand how our programming increases self-confidence and improves interpersonal skills, leading to ongoing scholastic success.

The need for our services is greater than ever and your financial support allows us to continue offering our tutoring and enrichment programs free of charge to families and schools.

On behalf of the students, families, teachers and Invest In Youth board, thank you for helping us make a difference,

Cindy Sackett
