message from cindy sackett, our executive director

To the Invest in Youth Community,

First, we want to acknowledge the incredibly unique and challenging time that we have all been facing. We understand that many members of our community have been affected by the ongoing pandemic, recession, and civil unrest. Through the lens of compassion, collaboration, determination, and integrity - values we hold deeply at Invest in Youth - we continue to fight against the disparities that affect young students in education.

Covid-19 Updates

Like many organizations, we were confronted with the many changes and challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. While our program became limited by Covid-19 protocols and regulations, we have been continuously making the effort to stay relevant and supportive within the current online school system. Unfortunately, tutoring was disrupted at Roxhill Elementary, Beacon Hill Elementary, and Daniel Bagley Elementary. However, we are pleased to share our success in transitioning to online tutoring at Thurgood Marshall Elementary and South Shore K-8. This month we will have completed a full academic year of online tutoring at these schools. This couldn’t have been possible without the support of administrators and teacher-site coordinators.

Supporting Our Program

Due to the pandemic, we have had to scale back our fundraising efforts to virtual and online platforms. Given the transition, we are so grateful for the support we have received from our community as well as the relief funding granted to us by School’s Out Washington and the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

For many of you who have enjoyed participating in our annual events in the past, we are happy to announce that our Golf Classic will be resuming on August 5th at full capacity. You can register now for this event at early-bird rates on our website. You can also look forward to receiving information regarding our annual Invest in Youth Gala in the spring of 2022!

Moving Forward

As we look towards the 2021-22 academic year, we are excited to continue our online program and hope to have our in-person instruction resume as soon as we are able. We will continue to stay updated on Covid-19 vaccine regulations, as well as the developing rules and protocols at Seattle Public Schools.

We are currently seeking both in-person and online tutors for the 2021-22 academic year. If you are interested, we ask that you please fill out an application on our website or follow the link below.

We would like to acknowledge you, our community - those who have supported and sponsored our organization and those who have participated in our program as students, tutors, teachers, and administrators. It is with your help that we can continue supporting many wonderful and deserving students in Seattle Public Schools.

With gratitude,

Cindy Sackett
